Streaming Video - Beware of Gridlock

Streaming video's the latest cool trick to promote your site, right?

Well... only if your visitors can see it.

I recently came across a site with lots of videos on something that I'm keenly interested in, and I couldn't wait to watch them. Each one was supposed to last about 4 minutes, so they couldn't take that long to load up... could they?

Well, not if you're in the same country as the site, perhaps. The trouble is, that site and myself were on opposite sides of the Atlantic.

I clicked on the first track, and it buffered for several minutes - then it flickered into life and its producer said, "Hi! My name is..."

The video then froze, and buffered for several more minutes before the guy in the picture jerkily moved his hands for a split second and gave me half his name... and then it froze again. Cue more buffering.

This was not what I'd call streaming video - it was more like gridlock.

Now, at this point I would usually have given up and left the site, but I really wanted to watch those videos, so I hung on.

I kid you not, it took an hour and a half before the buffering got near the end - of a video which, remember, was supposed to take a mere 4 minutes to play through.

It was at this point that I made my big mistake. Once the buffering had finished, I decided, I'd be able to watch the whole thing properly - and I might as well do it with a cup of coffee in my hand.

Wrong move. In the time it took to switch the kettle on, the buffering had finally completed... and gone back to zero. Hopefully, I clicked on Play, and the buffering began again. Right from the start.

Now, this ought to be a one-off horror story... but it isn't. There are lots of sites that offer video and other kinds of streaming media that only work the way they should if you're quite near to them, or else you're using broadband (I don't, because I reckon that the best way to ensure that all the content on my site is easily accessible to all site visitors is to test it on a dial-up connection).

If you want to use some video without antagonizing all those of your visitors who can't get at it easily, it's a good idea to offer an alternative.

1. If possible, present it in a format that can be downloaded. A download manager that can collect it overnight, or resume an interrupted download when it's more convenient, can take the sting out of the waiting; or

2. It that's not feasible, offer them a transcript. Write down everything you're saying on the video, and let them just download it as an e-book.

If you're working from a script, that should take very little effort - if not, it's worth the extra work to play it through and just transcribe your words.

(Do get rid of those distracting "um"s and "er"s, though - they creep into most videos at some point, and your visitors will probably take clarity a lot more seriously than exact fidelity to the recorded version!)

Your visitors will love you for it - it's a quick and easy way to show you care about them.

If you don't, you're going to lose a lot of hard-earned traffic, because a gridlocked video has just the same effect as gridlocked vehicles - exasperated visitors avoid the place in future.

Revealing Thoughts on The Canon PowerShot SX110IS

This Canon model was the one I have searched for a whole month. All I wanted was a point-and-shoot camera that wouldn't be too pricey (something in the range of $250 or even below) for my occasional photography needs. Initially I wanted something light and ultra-portable, a camera that I can carry in my pocket without even noticing it so that I can use it whenever I don't have my DSLR with me, but I couldn't help it when I saw this model and decided to buy it.

What specifically attracted me was the huge 10x optical zoom, which you cannot find in a lot of cameras in this segment, and also the Image Stabilization chip, which also isn't that common in low-end cameras.

After the first few weeks of using it, the overall experience is good. Let me get over a few key points.

In auto mode it shoots with ISO 200, which is obviously not the best choice, you will need to retouch the photos in Photoshop to remove the noise. If you own such a camera, unless you are shooting outside late in the evening, I strongly advise you to switch to Program mode and set it to ISO 80 to get better results.

Speaking of dim light, unless you are shooting a still subject or you can lean your camera against something steady, like a bar, wall or lighting pole, you should use the flash, or your photos will come out blurry. The focusing can sometimes be annoyingly slow in low light, and you cannot afford to wait a couple of seconds if you want to immortalize a candid scene.

The quality of video clips is great, far better than other CyberShot models I have tested. The only drawback is that you cannot use optical zoom during the shooting, only zooming digitally will work.

The 3 inch display is great. It comes with a high resolution and, my favorite, it sticks out from the camera, allowing you to maneuver the camera better. On-screen rotation of the pictures is also one of my dearest features, no more tilting your camera to 90 degrees to get a portrait shot. Macro mode works great, I would say better than with other similar models, the depth and quality of details is simply breath-taking.

I wouldn't advise getting a Canon PowerShot SX110IS for occasional photos. There are smaller, lighter and faster models that would fit you better. However, if you want great results with a low-end point-and-shoot gadget, then this one is for you!

How Do You Switch Linux Versions Successfully?

If you have started to use Linux, you will notice that there are thousands of options for everything. This means that there are many different distributions that you can use with a variety of applications, interfaces, and functions. You might like the distribution that you are using, but might want to make the switch to another version that you could like better. How can you make this switch?

Before erasing what you have and starting over, you need to start out rationally and test things. If your new distribution has a different interface like switching from KDE to Gnome, consider installing the new interface on the distribution that you are currently using. This will let you get used to it to see if you like it.

Another strategy is to use a virtual machine or a live CD. This will let you get used to the new distribution. Try using it for a week or two to find out if you really like it or not.

If you are going to make the switch, you will need to back up a few things. The most important files that you need to have is your home folder. Many make a mistake of just backing up the folders that are showing. What you really need are the hidden folders since these have all your settings. If you are using similar applications between distributions, your settings will still be there so the program functions just like you had it.

You will also need to at least backup the programs that you are using. Your new distribution will replace many of these, but if there are any specific programs and applications that you need, get these backed up.

Once you install your new system, drag and drop your home folder with it's hidden folders as well and your system should work just like you need it to.

Family trips to Disneyland, gift openings on Christmas or other holidays, and glimpses of the family's youngest member attempting to blow out the handful of candles on their birthday cake; these are among the favorite cherished memories captured with Mom and Dad's video camera. They are also on the verge of becoming lost forever as the equipment used to play them is quickly disappearing from homes all over the country.

History has shown that media formats have a limited life span

Do you remember the old Victrolas? How about reel-to-reel tape, 8-tracks, 8mm film or the Betamax VCR? As technology speeds ahead, media formats are left behind, sometimes, along with their contents. Some of the old recordings made during the days of the Victrola have managed to survive long enough to be digitally restored with the aide of advanced computer software. The infamous "duet" of Nat King Cole and his daughter Natalie is one of the best known examples of this technological wonder.

Many of the recordings made in people's homes using the once popular Betamax VCR have not been so fortunate. The extinction of the format along with the VCRs capable of playing the Betamax tapes have left thousands of people with videos they'll probably never get to see again. History is about to repeat itself as the 8mm, Hi8, Digital8, VHS-C and VHS formats are nearing the end of their viewing life.

The end of the 8mm, Hi-8, and Digital-8 video formats

Sony, the creator of the 8mm, Hi8, and Digital 8 tape formats has been phasing out production of all of their 8mm camcorder models. In fact, their website no longer includes any 8mm models in their current product lineup.

During the lifespan of the 8mm videotape formats there were relatively few video players produced that would play any of the 8mm video formats, so most consumers had to use their cameras in order to view the tapes on their television screens.

The cost of repairing an 8mm camcorder was nearly that of purchasing a new one, so when it ceased to function, it was usually thrown away. Many 8mm camera owners grew frustrated with the idea of having to use the camera to play the tapes, so they opted to switch over to the VHS-C format. Others decided to go with the newer MiniDV format when it became the more popular format.

The combination of these factors have left us with very few fully-functioning videotape players that are necessary in order to transfer 8mm videos to a format like DVD that can be viewed on televisions now. It's expected that within the next few years it could become nearly impossible to make these conversions, as we run out of equipment to play them, as it did with Betamax. For this reason, it's strongly recommended that anyone who has one of these formats should have their 8mm, Hi8, and Digital8 videos transferred to DVD as soon as possible or risk losing their contents forever.

VHS and VHS-C tape formats are next

JVC, the inventor of the VHS and VHS-C formats, has been phasing out the VHS-C camcorders. While VHS-C tapes can still be played in a standard VCR using a special adaptor, VCR's have been rapidly disappearing from retailers' shelves as a result of the transition to DVD. VCRs are expected to be gone within the next few years.

In addition, it's been proven that video information captured on VHS and VHS-C tapes will begin to deteriorate 7 years after being recorded, so now, more than ever, is the time to transfer your VHS videos to DVD.

MiniDV's days are numbered

Take a trip to the local camera or electronics store and you'll notice that even the MiniDV format is giving way to the hard drive, memory card, and mini DVD cameras. MiniDV has been one of the most popular video formats, in recent years, for both consumers and professional video production companies alike. This should allow these types of tapes to be transferred for a few years longer than the 8mm and VHS formats.

Time is running out to transfer home videos to DVD

The window of opportunity is closing soon. Don't let your precious memories suffer the same fate as Betamax videos. Have all of your 8mm, Hi8, Digital8, VHS-C, VHS, and MiniDV videotapes transferred to DVD before it's too late and the equipment needed for the transfer is no longer available.

What format is safe to transfer to?

As of 2008 the most common video format in the country is DVD. The Gold Archival DVD is the ideal choice for preserving all of those special memories and important videos. Gold doesn't oxidize like other minerals, which is a common cause of failure in most DVDs. The non-corrosive, reflective properties of gold make these discs the best choice for archiving important information and enable the discs to last up to 100 years. Sony BRC Series HD Cameras and the EVI-HD1 - Their Impact on Future Video Conferencing Trends

Infocomm 2008 kicked off their 3-day conference last Wednesday (June 18, 2008) with a vengeance. Held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, I had the opportunity to fly out for their opening day to see what the latest trends are and to get a first hand glimpse of new products in action. Upon arrival to the LVCC, the size of the convention was overwhelming to say the least and that was before thousands of people flocked to the doors after the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Broken up into two different halls and occupying over 1,050,000 sq. ft., there were at least 950 exhibitors showcasing their latest and greatest audio visual and electronic products to a floor of at least 15,000 people in attendance. This number does not include the plethora of meeting rooms being used for several technology seminars and workshops in addition to key note speaker presentations.

Although there were several different products showcased, one of the primary buzzwords for the conference was "Telepresence". "Telepresence" is defined as "a set of technologies which allow a person to feel as if they were present, to give the appearance that they were present, or to have an effect, at a location other than their true location." ( Wikipedia 2008 ) In a nutshell, the term "telepresence" is an updated term that seems to be replacing "Video Conferencing" as technology continues to advance. With telepresence, the person not in the office comes through in almost a 3D fashion making it seem as though they are actually present when they are not. Video conferencing is less technical and the people on the other end are included in a video fashion.

Walking through the "Telepresence Pavilion", the two new and most popular VC systems came courtesy of Polycom and Sony. Although the Polycom telepresence systems were exhibited in abundance, the Sony EVI-HD1 and BRC series of cameras were equally showcased as the latest and greatest HD cameras available for video conferencing/telepresence applications.

SONY EVI-HD1

Built upon the great success of the EVI-D70 and EVI-D100, Sony's first high-definition EVI robotic camera was designed for videoconferencing, distance learning, houses of worship and corporate training. This single chip-based, pan/tilt/zoom camera features multi-format capabilities to output both standard- and high-definition video so users can easily migrate from standard-definition to HD.

The new EVI-HD1 model uses a 1080i CMOS sensor that delivers exceptional high-definition resolution in 720p, 1080i or 1080p. The camera can be used with compatible codec's and systems from other manufacturers, due to its ability to output standard-definition video (YC and composite), high-definition analog component (Y, Pub, Pr) or digital HD-SDI. For companies outfitting conference rooms with 16:9 widescreen displays, the EVI-HD1 camera outputs 16:9 images in 480i or HD formats. The camera also incorporates a 10x optical zoom lens with a 70-degree horizontal field of view and is equipped with high-torque, high-speed direct drive motors that enable smooth, fast and quiet pan/tilt operations, making it ideal for conference rooms and courtrooms.

The camera's pan/tilt/zoom controls can be operated by an easy-to-use supplied IR Remote Commander® unit or via the RS-232C interface (VISCA(TM) protocol) with a host of commercially available controllers. The EVI-HD1 can also be controlled from an optional RM-BR300 Remote Control Unit. The ergonomically designed joystick and feature-rich control panel of the RM-BR300 provide superb operability in various remote video-shooting applications.

BRC SERIES

The Sony BRC Series consists of three revolutionary Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) color video cameras, each especially designed for remote video shooting applications. Both the BRC-H700 and BRC-300 have already been highly successful worldwide, satisfying user needs for high-definition (HD) and standard-definition (SD) applications, respectively.

With a number of useful features and excellent picture quality, the BRC Series is ideal for a variety of remote video shooting applications, such as in houses of worship, auditoriums, teaching hospitals, corporate boardrooms, and at sporting events, trade shows, and concerts. Furthermore, it is an excellent choice for broadcast applications, such as the recording of television programs or as a weather camera. Since the BRC Series consists of three cameras each with specific benefits, users can choose the most appropriate solution for their specific application needs.

The Sony high definition BRC-H700 offers high picture quality and high sensitivity with three 1/3-type HD CCDs and a resolution of 1,120,000 total pixels. It is ideal for users demanding extremely clear HD images with great detail, and because of its high sensitivity, it can be operated in shooting environments without ideal lighting. Sony also recently introduced the new HD/SD BRC-Z700, equipped with three 1/4-type HD ClearVidTM CMOS Sensors. This camera is both HD and SD capable, enabling versatile operations and allowing users to easily migrate from SD to HD picture quality. What's more, the BRC-Z700 incorporates a newly designed smooth PTZ mechanism for precise camera control.

On display at the Sony booth last week, the BRC-H700 and BRC-Z700 gave visitors an inside look into why these two cameras are rapidly becoming the true leaders in the High Definition Video Conferencing/ Telepresence world:

The BRC-H700 and BRC-Z700 each have sixteen presets (BRC-300 has six presets) to which predefined Pan/Tilt/Zoom positions and other parameters can be allocated. These presets can be recalled at the touch of a button to easily capture video from pre-specified areas. They can also be controlled from either the supplied IR Remote Commander(TM) Unit or optional RM-BR300 Remote Control Unit. The ergonomically designed joystick and feature-rich control panel of the RM-BR300 provide superb operability in various remote video-shooting applications
Users can transmit uncompressed digital data including external sync and camera control signals via an optical multiplex unit such as the BRU-H700 and BRU-300. With only a single cable connection between the camera and the HD optical multiplex unit, the system is extremely easy to install.
Flexibility

Third party switchers and multiplexers work very well with the BRC cameras.
Sierra Video Systems and AMX switchers and multiplexers were on display at the show and work very well with the BRC cameras.
Sony adaptor cards are available or third party adaptor cards can be used to accommodate the user's video interface

Users can run fiber cables up to:

500 meters in length for the BRC-300 and
1000 meters in length for both the BRC-H700 and BRC-Z700.

With everything the Sony BRC series of industrial cameras has to offer not only for HD Video Conferencing/ Telepresence but for a plethora of other applications, an increasing number of people are beginning to integrate these cameras into their current video conferencing set-ups. The new HD cameras from Sony are changing the dynamics of video conferencing due to the drastically improved picture quality one sees when moving from standard definition to high definition.

Buyers and sellers do a dance sometimes in negotiating a contract. But, both sides should be prepared for curve balls from an invisible third party or a nice-as-pie-but-inflexible principal. You can overcome these price and term bait and switches if you know how to respond to these no so obvious wheeler-dealers. The main tactic they use is to get you baited first, once significantly involved, they attempt to adjust terms in their favor.

-When you're still home shopping don't allow real estate agents to motivate you to contract or to start out higher because there are several other offers or supposed offers on the table. Verify the existence of all other offers first. Many buyers drop out after hearing they will be competing for a property. And, never give your highest and best offer as your first.

-Verbal offers. The low-ball buyers love to ask the seller in person would you take "X" for your home. Or another tactic is to inquire directly or through their agent, "what is the bottom line price-wise on your home?" In most states, verbal offers are not enforceable, so demand that all offers be in writing. Never tip your hand concerning price and terms before drafting an offer. It backfires most of the time, and I've seen buyers pay more than they thought after playing verbal volleyball.

-Invisible negotiator. Most real estate contracts today utilized by real estate professionals have a clause making the offer contingent on "third party approval". This third party could be an attorney or Uncle Milt in Cleveland. If you get involved with this scenario, find out the role of the third party at the beginning. If not you might end up having them derail already agreed-upon conditions.

-Endless negotiator. Buckle your seat belt for the anxious buyer type. They believe the deal isn't over until you walk out of closing or escrow. They bring in the pickiest home inspectors, find irresolvable issues, and protest prorated credits from sellers on property taxes, when new information is available the day before closing. I recently had one of these buyers on a home I listed. My problem was both the buyers agent and the buyer were endless negotiators. 3 days before closing they were still at us. I called their bluff and placed the listing back on the market, my seller's real estate attorney drafted purchase contract cancellation papers. They closed without further requests.

-Jekyll and Hyde. Couples can play this game. One can be affable and flexible, the offer firm and entrenched. And don't think these roles are played along gender lines, many a sugar coated spouse or partner, turned ugly. Yes, sad to say, someone could of easily said that the XBOX 360 was rushed to darn quickly, in time for the christmas season and the following years Consumer Electronics Show, held annually in Los Vegas. Me being an Apple computer user, I was never the hugest fan when it came to Microsoft products. I did eventually end up buying one, because years before I made the switch from PC to Apple, I had fell in love with Project Gotham 3.

Ok, so $400 and $50 for the game, I ended up thinking I got a fair deal with my XBOX 360. I was having a ball with the insane graphics, and just winning cars left and right. I have to admit, I am a huge F1 race fan at heart, so I seriously thought I was going to wear the heck out of the thing. A few months of hardcore gameplay between work, and watching hockey and footballl, I eventually won the Ferrari F430.

So, the day after I won the Ferrari F430, I wanted to take the prancing horse out to the Nurburgring and lay some serious Pirelli P-Zeros and while entering the Nordschliefe area while departing the current GP track, my game just stopped! I was puzzled and couldn't figure it out for the life of me what was wrong. The power connections and video/sound connections were solid, so that was not the problem.

I had examined the console, and happened to find on the power button, a ring of red lights blinking. Since I had taken automotive school in high school, I have noticed that the blinking red lights could of been some trouble code. Instead of calling Microsoft, since I am not a huge fan of them at all, heh, I decided to pursue the problem using the world wide web. Looking on various websites, forums, endless google search strings, I had found out the problem was a general hardware failure.

I had a few options thought that I could examine.

Send the box to Microsoft to get it repaired. This would take copious amounts of time, and some cash outlay for shipping and overall repairs to the console.
Just simply throw out the unit, and spend another $400 to get back to having fun driving my Ferrari's.
Further explore a suitable possibility to repair the Console myself, regardless of voiding the warranty.

Car Stereo Wiring 101 - A Must Read!

I have come across a lot of car stereo systems over the past 10 years or so. There are so many "techniques" to installing head units. Everyone has their own opinion of what is right and wrong when wiring up a system, but just because it works doesn't make it right.

I asked Majestic Modifications what their opinion was on the subject. How do they install so many units and always get it right?

First, if applicable, always use the harnesses. The aftermarket wiring harness will usually take the guesswork out of the installation. These harnesses attach to the vehicle's factory wiring harness and gives you a color coded installation. You just attach red to red, yellow to yellow, etc. But is that all an installer should know?

Starting with your digital multimeter, find the power sources in the harness. One source will be continuous 12 volts, the other will be the ACC (ignition) 12 volts. These two will go with the yellow and red wires from the aftermarket head unit's harness. They are labeled accordingly. It is usually a good idea to attach the ground wire to the frame of the dash. A lot of head units come with a connector for this already attached to the ground wire. Secure these in place with some solder and shrink tubing. Slip the shrink tubing over one of the wires to be connected and move it out of the way. Connect the wires and dab a little solder on the wires. Let cool and then slide the heat shrink tubing over the connection. Heat with a heat gun/hair dryer to shrink the tubing to fit.

You can try to look on the internet for the wiring colors, but good luck. They will tell you the "typical" wire colors, but chances are it will be different. You can try two techniques to find the right wires. Clip the rest of the wires from the factory harness. You can test the speakers with a good 9 volt battery to see which speakers are which. Two wires connected to the same speaker will make it pop. Note which speaker makes the pop and attach it to that speakers wiring from the head unit. I like to turn the unit on and make sure the wires are the right polarity. A reverse wired speaker will not have as good a sound as a properly wired one. Continue the technique until all the speakers are connected.

The other way you can trace the speakers down is to turn on the head unit, but be VERY careful to not cross any wires. Start with a pair of wires, and attach them one at a time until you get sound. Note which speaker it is and attach it to that speaker's wires from the wiring harness, taking not of polarity. Continue until all the wires are in place. Zip tie the wire together and neatly tuck them behind the head unit.

Be sure you have a good ground wire connection. Be sure that RCAs or signal wires are running away from any power wires or sources, and are not run parallel to them.

If you want a neat trick, you can attach the 12 volt acc to the illumination wire, and you will be able to turn the unit on with your parking light switch. Take note, that anytime the unit is on, the dash panel lights will be on too, but you won't notice them in the daytime. The illumination wire is used to turn the factory radio lights on at night.

Not having the wiring harness for your vehicle is not a do or die situation. If you can get the harnesses, save the hassle and time and use it. If you find yourself in a bind, then follow the steps above and get it installed correctly.

Unfortunately this leaves my attention open to focus on the amount of credits in the machine instead, and if the amount is going down, my vibration goes with it.

I have since learned to refocus on the fun of the game itself. I now slow down my auto response. I sometimes pretend to be a novice to the game. I get myself deliberately excited over something as little as a pair of 2's that are dealt to me, wondering how cool it would be to draw another one --possibly even two more of them! Yeah! We put him on the top of our machine and had all sorts of fun with him. We would rub his little bald head before hitting the play button. 8. If You Can't Change Your Negative Vibe - Walk Away For Awhile

Sometimes no matter what you do, you can't shake a losing attitude. If you find this happening to you it is time for a little mental distraction. You know the saying "No sense in throwing away good money after bad"

If you are operating from a negative place, it will only bring more negative (i.e. more losing). So it is time to walk away for awhile and change your mood in other ways. If you are lucky enough to have a hotel room go there for awhile. Rent a $10.00 comedy on the television (believe me you would lose a lot more than that if you kept playing negatively for 2 hours on the casino floor) and lighten your mood.

Maybe go window shopping in the Casino mall, listen to the live band playing in the lounge, go for a walk on the boardwalk or the strip. Go get yourself a great snack or meal you would normally not eat at home. Up your vibration, feel better and then go back and play. Again, it is all about vibration.

9. Put Your Emotion Into Your Winning Hands - Not Your Losing Ones

Let's say you have 4 cards to a winning hand dealt to you and you do not pull the last card that you need. What is your immediate first response? Do you feel hopeful that at last the cards are starting to line up for you and a winning hand is on its way soon or do you feel disappointment or anger that you "missed" it and find yourself fuming for the next 20 minutes.

Again, your vibrational reaction makes all the difference. If you focus only on the hands you didn't win guess what you will get? More non-winning hands. If you put your emotion into the excitement of the winning hands, no matter how small, guess what you will get? More winning hands.

10. Gratefulness

Personally I have found that nothing helps me win more than constant gratefulness while I am playing. If I win even as little as 5 coins I will say "Thank you Universe and more of that please!" Like I mentioned above, I purposely get myself more excited about the wins and have learned to feel little or no emotion at the losses. I also make a concentrated effort to appreciate every thing around me. I am grateful for the air conditioned casino in the summertime. The fun sounds and lights I am surrounded by. The free drinks. The shouts of people winning at the craps table across the casino ( I love hearing the excited sounds of others winning! It boosts my spirits and makes me want to win even more, so I can share in the excitement.) 1. When working on a colour image, you can use the Paint Brush tool to selectively "paint away" colour to black and white. It can make one portion of your image really stand out. In the Paint Brush Options palette, change the blend mode to Colour, and paint away the colour

There are at least two ways to switch between the various measurement units that Photoshop displays.

What can be done to refresh a boring old room? Well, the first thought would probably be to paint the walls. While this would certainly give a new lease on life to a drab room, painting can be very messy and time consuming if done properly. The paint fumes are another hazard to be dealt with by fresh air ventilation. A superior method, which is a faster and an easier solution, is to apply a simple wallpaper border. The most common area to place a wallpaper border is along the top of the wall where it meets the ceiling, but you can think outside of the box a little. Why not place the border waist high or center it at the light switch level.

If a family is planning a nursery, free time to dress up the baby's room always seems to run down to the wire. Borders will save a parent much needed time and stress that will be better suited to assembling that crib and diaper changing organizing table. Depending on the border chosen, it can also be used as an educational tool from which children can learn. As the child grows and matures, so can the border theme easily be changed to reflect the new interests.

Wallpaper border will quickly jazz up any room without the dangers of volatile organic compounds, or VOCs. VOCs can be found everywhere from new carpet to even paints. VOCs are released slowly into the atmosphere over time. And while these volatile organic compounds usually don't pose immediate severe threats to an individual's health, extended over exposure can prove to have adverse harmful effects. This refers to folding the border back to back so that the paste can reach its maximum adhesion and allows a single person to easily handle a longer section by themselves. Working quickly, align the border near its final position and apply to the wall. Make any positional changes by sliding the border into place. Make sure to wipe or squeegee the excess water from the border and wall with a clean sponge.

Advancements in HD video are so fast that it can be somewhat dizzying. HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) just recently became part of the mainstream HD A/V movement, but a new signal has already cropped up and is posed to replace the original HDMI specification. HDMI 1.3 was released in the summer of 2006 but has finally begun to take the place of HDMI.

Before one goes out and spends the farm on new HDMI 1.3 appliances, it is probably crucial to at least understand what the changes actually are, and if it's worth it. One of the biggest changes is the optional compliance to the new HD audio standards DTS HD and Dolby TrueHD. Original HDMI uses 7.1 surround sound audio for a slightly less real experience for true audio buffs. Another useful added feature is automatic audio/video sync, which ensures that the audio and video match up. I haven't had the problem yet where I felt like I needed this option.

Another feature which I'd like to perform a side-by-side analysis on is support of 30-bit, 36-bit, and 48-bit video with "Deep Color," essentially allowing for over billions of colors.
